Jay Slater's mum issues heartbreaking update one month after teen went missing in Tenerife
A search and rescue operation was triggered on June 17 after Jay, a 19-year-old from Lancashire, went missing on the Spanish island.
Jay had partied at a nightclub in the south of Tenerife before leaving with two men and staying with them at an Airbnb in Masca, about an 11-hour walk away from his accommodation.
He left the Airbnb and, after missing a bus, told a friend that he was going to try and walk back before his battery went dead. Nothing has been seen or heard of him since.
This afternoon, Jay's mum Debbie Duncan released a new statement on the search for her missing son.
She said: “As we approach 4 weeks of our beautiful Jay's disappearance, we cannot put into words the heartache we are suffering as a family. Jay is a typical young man who loves life with a bright future ahead of him.
“This month will mark the end of his three-year apprenticeship with the world at his feet. He is loved by everyone and has a close bond with his family and many many friends.
“As a family, we would like to thank the public for their continued support and well wishes. We would also like to thank LBT Global, the British Embassy and the police who are doing all they can to support us.
”We would also like to say that we are aware of the awful comments and conspiracy theories that are filling social media. These theories are hindering the people trying to help us in their investigations here in Tenerife and are vile to see as a family.
“He is a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend to so many. He is such a popular boy and this is very distressing for us all to read.
The family appealed to anyone who holds any vital information to please contact LBT Global via [email protected] or anonymously at Crimestoppers.
