A baby boy has tragically died after a horror hit-and-run left his mum fighting for her life, police said.
According to the police, the 30-year-old woman, who was pregnant at the time, had been walking along a pedestrian crossing in Bamber, Lancashire before she was struck by a car, reports The Sun.
Police have reported the arrest of five individuals in connection with the hit-and-run incident.
The mother was rushed to the hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery to deliver her baby boy, who tragically passed away soon after.
The police are trying to locate a dark gray Toyota Prius which failed to stop at the scene.
Lancashire police arrested a 17-year-old girl from Lostock Hall, a 19-year-old man from Bolton, and a 40-year-old from Blackburn.
All three were taken into custody on suspicion of assisting an offender and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Additionally, police arrested two boys, aged 16 and 17, and a 56-year-old man, all from Bamber Bridge.
Detective Chief Inspector Jill Riley, of the Force Major Investigation Team, said: “This is an absolutely appalling incident which has resulted in the death of a little baby and has left his mother very poor in hospital and my thoughts are with their loved ones.
“Our investigation is making good progress, but I would still like to hear from anyone who may have footage or information which could help us piece together the events which led to this tragic collision and what happened afterwards.”
