EE customers across 50 UK towns and cities are set to enjoy a free speed boost to their 5G services.
The mobile network provider has expanded its 5G standalone network – a higher performing version of 5G – to more than 28million people.

New and existing customers with an EE handset plan should be able to reap the benefits of the upgrade by the end of March, according to the company.
EE launched 5G standalone in September last year.
Now the service is set to roll out to over 40 per cent of the UK population with EE’s latest expansion.
“Last year, we predicted that 5G standalone networks would get a boost as AI-powered services became more popular,” said Ben Wood, chief analyst at CCS Insight.
“With so many more compatible smartphones now available, it’s great to see enhanced 5G network technology being deployed to millions more people across the UK.”
An additional 19 towns and cities, from Doncaster to Exeter, are on the receiving end of the roll out.
In September last year, EE launched 5G standalone in 15 major UK cities including Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Liverpool, London, and Manchester.
A month later, the network provider added another batch of 16 locations and have continued to expand.
The three-phased rollout has so far covered 50 locations, meaning these areas have at least 95 per cent outdoor 5G standalone coverage..

Customers in these locations who switch to a 5G standalone plan will enjoy a speed and reliability boost – even in busy areas at peak times.
This means smoother video calls, livestreaming and online gaming, as well as improved access to AI features like Samsung’s Galaxy AI, Google’s Gemini AI and Apple Intelligence.
In a statement, director of mobile at EE, Malcolm Cubitt, said: “5G standalone is giving many customers a better and more reliable mobile experience, especially in busy locations.
“As we rapidly expand our network footprint to cover more than 40 percent of the UK population, we are widening its accessibility so more people can benefit – especially those looking to harness the power of cutting-edge features on the newest smartphones.”
