Nigel Farage has said he is preparing to make a “huge announcement” with just a week to go before the general election – with an opinion poll showing surging support for Reform UK.
Meanwhile, government minister Kevin Hollinrake has admitted to a bet on the Conservatives winning the election but – insisted that gambling on the result in his constituency would be “wrong”.
Mr Farage – who is campaigning in Durham in the North East today – took to Twitter yesterday evening, posting: “Reform UK events are getting bigger and bigger… Watch this space for a HUGE announcement!”
The Electoral Calculus/Find Out Now poll suggested Reform is on course to win 18 seats, with Mr Farage odds-on to take Clacton.
A minister has said he bet on the Conservatives winning the election but that gambling on the result in his constituency would be “wrong”.
Kevin Hollinrake, a business minister, bet on his party to win a parliamentary majority “some months ago”. Asked whether he had bet on a Tory victory, Mr Hollinrake said: “Yes, I did. Not my seat, I think that would be wrong.”
