Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron cosied up as the Prime Minister hosted a summit of European leaders today.
Speaking to broadcasters when he arrived, Macron insisted there is “no silver bullet” for bringing an end to small boat Channel crossings but said France was always ready to try and “improve the situation”.
The French president is holding bilateral talks with Sir Keir at the European Political Community meeting, held at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire.
“I will have the opportunity at the end of the day to have a bilateral session with the Prime Minister. I am very happy and this is a great opportunity for a reset,” Macron said.
Asked a new deal could be agreed to tackle the issue, Macron said: “It is obviously always a very delicate humanitarian situation so our willingness is constantly to improve the situation.”
Later Ukrainian President addressed European allies, insisting their bravery in supporting his nation against Russia's aggression “could be decisive”.
