A 15-year-old boy who collapsed while playing football in school in Edinburgh had earlier battled with heart disease, one of the family friends claimed. Andrew Mackinnon, 15, collapsed on Tuesday afternoon on the pitch at Forrester High in Edinburgh.
It is reported that the footie-mad pupil had previously undergone cardiomyopathy surgery, reported The Scottish Sun.
A close family friend said: “He was doing what he loved, playing football and suddenly passed away.
“He was a lovely, caring boy and adored his family.
“A few years ago Andrew went through massive surgery – he was the strongest lad and powered through life with the biggest smile on his face.
“On behalf of the family we have set this up to take as much pressure off the family as we can at this difficult time.
“We pass our love onto you all and Andrew will forever be the brightest star in the sky.”
Devastated over the death of his son, Andrew’s father posted a picture of them together in the hours after the tragedy while a fundraiser was set up to support relatives.
An online fundraising page has been set up and it has raised more than £13000 as the tributes continued to pour in over the tragic death.

Floral tributes were attached to the gates at the school where young Andrew tragically died.
Stephen Rafferty, Andrew’s Head Teacher at Forrester High School, said: “Our school and local community have been shocked and saddened by Andrew’s passing.
“He was such a likable character, loved by everyone who knew him.
“He was a great sportsman, an outstanding team player and a loyal friend.
“Our deepest sympathies are with Andrew’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
Emergency services rushed to the school on Tuesday afternoon to respond to the medical incident but despite extensive efforts, paramedics were unable to save Andrew.
Edinburgh Council said appropriate supports are in place for pupils and staff at the school following the death.
