The Chase viewers were left fuming after one contestant made an unpopular choice during the ITV show.
The Chase’s Mark Labbett had to address the audience following a contestant’s contentious choice on the popular ITV quiz show.
A team of four, comprising of Stephen, Maurice, Maryanne and Dawn stepped up to challenge the intellect of one of Britain’s top quiz minds.
With Stephen as the initial player to face off against The Chaser, who was none other than Mark Labbett or The Beast, there was palpable anticipation in the air.
Bradley Walsh expressed his admiration upon learning about Stephen’s occupation as a “senior technical advisor in the nuclear industry”.
The TV host remarked: “Did you just say nuclear? Wow.” He quickly resumed his traditional presenting role as Stephen entered the Cash Builder round.

Stephen delivered an impressive series of answers, netting £6,000 for the group’s collective kitty. After a nail-biting duel with The Beast, he managed to return to his team victoriously, guaranteeing his position in the final chase, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Following suit, Maurice stepped up to the plate and mirrored Stephen’s success, contributing yet another £6,000 to the cumulative prize fund.
Next in line, Maryanne took the stage on the ITV quiz and bagged £8,000 from the rapid question segment.
She went on to put up a solid fight against The Beast, boosting the total to £20,000. However, it was Dawn’s turn that sparked debate amongst viewers – some of whom branded her decision as “shameful”.
Dawn racked up £7,000 in her Cash Builder round. When facing The Beast head-on, she was presented with a less risky option of £-4,000.
After weighing her options, the quiz contestant announced: “Being in seat four, I want to get back so I want to go for the £-4,000, sorry.”
Social media users were left unimpressed with her decision, which reduced the team’s pot to £16,000, prompting them to share their vexation online.
A viewer complained: “That’s terrible!” and another exclaimed: “Noooooooo!!! Dawn!!! How could you take away from the pot?!!!!! Omg.”
Meanwhile, a third chimed in on Twitter: “Saw that shameful play coming a mile off.”
While the audience grumbled about the diminished prize fund, Mark Labbett had a word with Dawn.
He consoled her by stating: “It’s the smart thing to do. I know there will be people not playing the game on social media saying that’s terrible, but they’re not there and you are.”
Dawn’s conservative strategy proved fruitful as she clinched a place in the final chase with her teammates. The four players performed outstandingly in the ultimate round, posting a formidable tally of 22 points.
TV host Bradley Walsh commended the team: “That’s unbelievable.” Their significant lead held strong against The Beast, who didn’t manage to overcome the group’s efforts.
Mark Labbett praised the victors, commenting: “I didn’t lose that, you won it and you brought out the best of me. I loved that game.”
The Chase is available to watch on ITVX.
