Things Can Only Get Better – the unofficial anthem of the Labor Party. Well, things are only getting worse for its current leader, Sir Keir Starmer.
The Prime Minister has been left weaker than ever after a spectacular own goal by No 10. Briefings against Wes Streeting, the Health Secretary, were intended to ward off a supposed coup after the Budget. But they have only served to make matters worse for Sir Keir, who is barely limping along after 15 catastrophic months in charge.
Not only did they trigger a civil war at the top of the Labor Party, they unintentionally detonated a grenade in Downing Street.
Let's not forget, this is the second alleged attempt to oust the PM after Andy Burnham's botched effort exploded on the launchpad just six weeks ago.
That seemed to temporarily shore-up Sir Keir's position.
The fallout of this latest saga is harder to predict.
As well as the PM, his long-time ally Morgan McSweeney is the big loser of all of this – with many calling for his head for what they see as a bungled attempt to kill off a leadership threat.
Streeting's overall standing remains in limbo after denying any plotting with a ferocious attack on the toxic culture inside No 10. He's been given the PM's backing, too.
But it's no secret he covets the top job and has serious ambition to get there one day.
Perhaps the big winner of all of this is none other than Angela Rayner.
The former housing secretary is currently in exile over a tax scandal.
However, with Sir Keir deeply wounded and the Health Secretary left exposed, could the politician Nigel Farage admits he fears the most make a stunning comeback?
After the Budget, which is in 13 days' time, could be too soon – but May's elections, which could see Labor lose Wales, may well be seismic.
What's for certain is that the sharks are circling around Sir Keir.
