One retailer is taking a page out of Bethesda’s book and promising free copies of GTA 6 to any new parents who give birth on launch day.
Nobody is looking forward to the release of GTA 6 more than retailers, with the two delays so far being as upsetting for them as it has been for fans around the world.
They’ll be especially keen if the rumours about GTA 6 costing £100 or more are true, although that would put the game out of reach for some people.
As such, the promise of a free copy from day one is an alluring one and that’s precisely what one Norwegian store is offering. The catch? You need to have a baby that’s born the exact day GTA 6 launches.
The store in question is Komplett, which specialises in selling gaming and PC related products. In a recent Instagram post, it made the promise while insisting that it isn’t a joke and it’s serious about it.
‘This is actually not nonsense, GTA 6 is released in nine months (🤞) and if you have a baby on the launch date, you will get the game for free from us,’ it reads.

Given Norway’s small population, Komplett doesn’t have to worry about giving up too many free copies of the most anticipated game ever, but it’s aclever bit of advertising for them.
As a reminder, GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, so conception would have to happen right about now for you to be in with a chance. Although hopefully you have better reasons for having children than getting a free video game.
There’s also no guarantee that GTA 6 will even meet that date after having already been delayed twice. Although Komplett seems aware of the possibility (as evidenced by the fingers crossing emoji) and no doubt specified ‘launch date’ to avoid promising free copies in the event of a delay out of November.
Over on Reddit, people have pointed out another problem with this marketing stunt. Even if you do have a baby when GTA 6 launches, you are not going to have any time to play it.
‘The idea of a new parent having time to either parent effectively, or play a new game, is really quite funny,’ says ThreeTreesForTheePls.
‘As someone with children and paid parental leave, let me be the first to say, when you have a newborn, you will not be playing a lot of video games,’ says erishun.
‘They should be giving out condoms,’ jokes ericjfranklin, ‘No one wants to have to take care of a newborn on release day!’

As odd as the idea might sound, Bethesda made a similar offer in 2011, ahead of the launch of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.
Bethesda promised to gift anyone a free PC copy of not just Skyrim but all future Bethesda games for life if they had a baby on the same day as Skyrim’s launch – November 11, 2011.
However, they also had to name their baby Dovahkiin, which translates to dragonborn and is the title given to Skyrim’s main protagonist.
Sure enough, one set of parents took Bethesda up on its offer and according to a 2018 GamesRadar interview, the company kept its word. Although it’s unclear if the family is still receiving free games following Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda in 2021.
