A beloved north London music pub that has nurtured generations of artists is officially on the market for £1.75 million. The Fiddler's Elbow in Kentish Town, a 150-capacity venue, has hosted live music seven nights a week since the 1970s. Its stage has welcomed everyone from the late Shane MacGowan of The Pogues to James Bay, who filmed his music video for If You Ever Want to Be in Love there.
Frank Turner and Imelda May have performed there as well as many up-and-coming artists. The award-winning Grade II-listed venue that dates back to the 1800s is now listed on Rightmove. On social media, the owners have described it as not “just a property” but a “legacy.” They wrote: “This isn't just a property; it's a legacy. Whether you're looking for a landmark investment or the ultimate passion project, this is your “once in a lifetime” moment.”
The Victorian pub was originally called The Mother Shipton before adopting its current name in the 1990s. The venue was taken over by current owners and music enthusiasts Dan Maiden and Nancy Wild in 2009. They have decorated it with music memorabilia, vinyl 45s, posters, and a vintage 1960s jukebox, preserving its distinctive character and history.
The owners are selling the music venue because they are retiring but they don't want to sell it to just anyone. They are looking for owners who want to keep the venue's legacy alive and who want to “keep grassroots music alive.”
On social media, the owners made a heartfelt appeal to prospective buyers. They wrote: “The legendary Fiddler's Elbow is officially for sale! The iconic, award-winning grassroots venue in the heart of Kentish Town is a rare Freehold opportunity.
“After years of hosting the best live music in London, the long-standing owners are retiring – handing over the keys to the next visionary. We are looking for owners who want to keep the legacy going and invest in keeping grassroots spaces alive.
“The Fiddlers Elbow has been a staple and heart of the community, and is home to many artists.”
