The Victim is a 2019 BBC legal thriller that fans have labelled as “one of the best ever”.
Netflix has dropped a “spellbinding” drama that subscribers haven’t been able to stop themselves from binge-watching.
Originally released on BBC One in 2019, The Victim delves into the tragic story of nurse Anna Dean (played by Kelly MacDonald), whose nine-year-old son Liam was murdered 15 years prior.
Eddie J Turner was the alias of the man who, when he was 13, killed Liam, but after serving seven years in juvenile detention, he was released with a new identity to protect him from the public.
Fast forward to the present day, and Anna starts to believe that local bus driver Craig Myers (James Harkness) is really Eddie and posts her theory online along with a picture.
This leads to a brutal attack on Craig, and Anna is subsequently charged with incitement to murder.
Here’s a breakdown of how The Victim ends as the drama continues to work its way up Netflix’s most-watched list.

The Victim ending explained
Despite her beliefs that Craig is really Eddie, when it comes out that his best friend Tom Carpenter (John Scougall) was really the child killer.
Anna, who was initially up for conspiracy to murder, is convicted of a lesser charge of assault to the danger of life.
Now thinking that she has falsely accused and ruined an innocent man’s life, she meets with Craig to try and begin to apologise for what she has put him through.

However, in an unexpected turn of events, a distressed Craig breaks down and confesses that he is really Eddie J Turner after all.
Tom, with whom he had formed a close bond while in juvenile detention, had only said he was Eddie to try to protect his best friend.
Craig explains that when he was 13, he was having a nervous breakdown and self-harming.
Seeing he was in need of help, nine-year-old Liam tried to help him, but Craig snapped and fatally stabbed the youngster.
Having heard his confession, Liam’s dad Christian (Cal MacAninch) appears during their conversation with a knife, ready to kill the man who murdered his son.
But Anna steps in front of Craig to stop Christian from hurting him and references an earlier flashback of their son Liam saying that he “wanted to be big”.
This stops Christian in his tracks as they know that their son was killed trying to do the right thing.
The Victim ends ambiguously, as while Anna has been convicted, it isn’t clear what will become of Craig now that the truth is out.
The Victim is available to watch on Netflix.
