Britons are split on whether the United States remains an ally and are worried that the United Kingdom will get drawn into its conflict with Iran. Only 34% of people polled by Opinium said the US was an ally, with 33% describing the superpower as a threat. Just 19% said Israel was an ally with 41% calling it a threat.
More than half of people (51%) said Sir Keir Starmer's government is doing a “bad job” handling relations with Donald Trump, with fewer than one in three (32%) saying it is doing a “good job”.
President Trump has blasted Sir Keir for not doing more to support the attacks on Iran, claiming he is “no Winston Churchill”. But 77% of Britons are concerned the country will get pulled into the war. A majority (53%) said the President's criticism of the Prime Minister was unfair, with only 26% considering it fair.
While three in 10 said the King's planned visit to the United States should go ahead, 29% thought it should be cancelled, and a quarter wanted it postponed.
Nearly six out of 10 (57%) did not want the Royal Navy to escort oil and gas tankers through the Strait of Hormuz where they will be at risk of attack from Iran.
Sixty-seven percent of Britons considered Iran a threat with a mere 5% seeing it as an ally.
Voters disapproved of all the main party leaders' response to the war. Reform UK's Nigel Farage had the worst net approval rating (-17), ahead of the Conservatives' Kemi Badenoch (-13), Sir Keir and the Greens' Zack Polanski (both -10) and the Liberal Democrats' Sir Ed Davey (-10).
The public were also unimpressed by how the Labor Government handled relations with Europe, with 46% saying it is doing a “bad job” and just 32% approving. Thirty-seven percent disapprove of engagement with China, with only 29% saying it did a “good job”.
