Former darts world champion Gerwyn Price opened a chip shop in his hometown in 2024
Gerwyn Price has announced the chip shop he owns in south Wales as his new sponsor. The darts star opened Chippy 501 in his hometown of Markham in 2024.
The 40-year-old recently returned to the oche for the first time since his shock early exit at the PDC World Darts Championship in December. Price entered the Bahrain Darts Masters last week and began with a 6-4 victory over Motomu Sakai.
The three-time world champion earned an eye-catching 6-2 win over Luke Littler in the quarter-finals before losing to Michael van Gerwen in the next round. He is currently preparing for the Saudi Arabia Darts Masters, where he could showcase the Welsh chip shop as a shirt sponsor.
Posting on his Instagram story, Price shared a picture of Chippy 501 stickers alongside a tongue-in-cheek caption. He wrote: “Wow thank you @chippy501_2024. Can’t believe you’ve given me a lifetime gold card as well. Free food for life #newsponsor”

‘The Iceman’ applied for planning permission to convert an old pharmacy into a chip shop in early 2024. The former world champion, who previously opened a cafe, admitted that starting his chip shop venture did initially impact his darts career.
In December 2024, he said of starting Chippy 501: “That’s probably why I was losing and playing rubbish — my mind was elsewhere. I’m glad now it’s up and running rather than me having to worry about it too much.
“The cafe was rubbish in the end and is being leased out as a dog-grooming salon but Chippy 501 is doing well. It wasn’t just about opening it. I’ve got cameras in the shop and I was always checking them on my phone.”
He added: “Yeah, it can affect the oche. I’m eating fish and chips all the time. I set up a 10 per cent discount for myself.”
Having focused on making money outside darts, Price has already hinted that his successful business could lead him to retire early from the sport. However, he is currently focused on adding to his long list of darts titles.
Price is scheduled to face Alexis Toylo of the Philippines at the Saudi Arabia Darts Masters, which begins on Monday. The Welshman is one of eight PDC representatives in the 16-player field alongside eight players from Asia.
Other star names joining Price at the tournament include Luke Littler, Luke Humphries and Michael van Gerwen. It is the first PDC event to be staged in Saudi Arabia.
The total prize pot is £100,000. The winner will receive £30,000, while the runner-up will earn £16,000.
Price’s sole title throughout 2025 came at the Poland Darts Masters in July. He was a semi-finalist at the Grand Slam of Darts, Players Championship Finals, Premier League Darts and World Series of Darts Finals.
