Jamie Foxx has released an emotionally candid video, speaking out for the first time about his recent medical scare.
The 55-year-old Oscar winner took to Instagram early Saturday morning to express his gratitude for the prayers and support he received during his recovery from a medical complication that occurred on April 11 while filming the movie Back in Action in Atlanta.
“I cannot even begin to tell you how far it took me and how it brought me back,” he shared, referring to his fans. “I went through something I thought I would never ever go through.”
Foxx acknowledged that many people were waiting for updates on his condition, but he hesitated to share his struggles publicly. “To be honest with you, I didn’t want you to see me like that. I want you to see me laughing, having a good time, partying, cracking jokes, doing movies, or TV shows. I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through.”
He expressed his heartfelt appreciation to his sister Deidra Dixon and his daughter Corinne, whom he credited with saving his life. Additionally, he thanked God and the skilled medical professionals who cared for him during his challenging time.
“I cannot tell you how great it feels to have your family kick in in such a way — and y’all know they kept it airtight, they didn’t let nothin’ out. They protected me,” he said. “And that’s what I hope everyone could have in the moments like these.”
Addressing unfounded rumors about his health, Foxx clarified, “Now, you know, by being quiet sometimes things get out of hand. People saying what I got, some people said I was blind, but as you can see … the eyes are working just fine. Said I’m paralyzed — I’m not paralyzed.”
“But I did go through… I went to hell and back,” said Foxx. “And my road to recovery had some potholes as well. But I’m coming back. And I’m able to work.”
Jamie Foxx grew emotional as he acknowledged the overwhelming love and support he received from fans. “I know they talk about people crying on videos,” he said, “you can do a take two; I’m not gonna do a take two. It is what it is. If you see me out from now on and every once and a while I just burst into tears, it’s because it’s been tough, man. I’ve been sick, man. But now, I’ve got my legs under me, so you’re gonna see me out.”
He ended the video by expressing his gratitude to the people who have been there for him. “But like I said, I just want you to remember me for the jokes that I crack, the movies that I make — some of them good, some of them ain’t (I think I’ve got a good one out), and songs that I sing. … I’m here on earth because of some great people. I’m here on earth because of God, man.”
He ended the video by saying, “I’m on my way back.”
Jamie Foxx initially broke his silence with a written message on Instagram on May 3, expressing his appreciation for the love and support he received during his recovery.
His daughter, Corinne, had announced the medical emergency on April 12, assuring everyone that due to prompt action and excellent care, Foxx was already on the path to recovery.
A month later, Corinne shared another update, debunking rumors and confirming that her father had been out of the hospital for weeks and was doing well. She even mentioned that he was actively playing pickleball.
