There’s a very positive mood around Swansea City right now ahead of the new season
Swansea City’s players were surprised by the club’s co-owners during their pre-season training camp out in Spain this week.
Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen both made the journey out to meet the players, who have been put through the paces ahead of the new season.
They both posed with the ‘winning team’ after Wednesday’s training session, which featured Goncalo Franco, Josh Key, Zan Vipotnik, and new arrivals Melker Widell and Zeidane Inoussa. Sign up to our Swansea City newsletter here.
Cravatt and Cohen were all smiles as they posed for snaps, before presumably taking in the preparations for the new season first hand.
After a difficult start to their reign in the form of a poor January transfer window, the new ownership group has overseen a noticeable rise in the mood around SA1.
Five new signings have already been confirmed this summer to help strengthen Alan Sheehan’s squad, while news of Luka Modric’s minority investment towards the end of last season has also sparked understandable excitement.
Cravatt, keen to bring a celebrity investor to the club, was a key figure in getting that deal done, largely due to his friendship with American entrepreneur Scott Hochstadt, who happens to also be a friend of Modric.
Hochstadt’s clothing company Legends had previously approached the Croatian over a possible investment opportunity, and despite the midfielder not coming on board, the pair remained on good terms.
It’s that mutual connection that ultimately led to Modric investing in the club and, while he’s only purchased a small stake, his impact has already been felt in recent weeks.
Indeed, new signing Inoussa revealed he had spoken to the Ballon d’Or winner before confirming his move, and it’s understood he has spoken to other prospective signings this summer.
Modric himself has been pretty busy resolving his own future, signing for AC Milan following his release from Real Madrid this summer. Sign up to the Swansea City WhatsApp service to get breaking news and top stories sent to your phone.
But he’s clearly been keeping a close eye on how things are going with the Swans.
As well as Cravatt and Cohen, his agent Borja Couce also dropped in on the squad this week to keep an eye on preparations ahead of the new season.
The exact reason for the visit isn’t yet known, but it perhaps offers an insight into the former Tottenham star’s enthusiasm for the ongoing project.
