Dianne Buswell has been a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing since 2017 and has become a firm favourite with viewers – here’s a look at her life away from the show
Dianne Buswell, the professional dancer who made her Strictly Come Dancing debut in 2017, quickly became popular with the fans. In 2024, she was partnered with comedian Chris McCausland, and the pair went on to lift the Glitterball Trophy.
She has also danced her way to the final with YouTuber Joe Sugg and again with EastEnders star Bobby Brazier. Dianne and Chris, who is visually impaired due to retinitis pigmentosa, consistently wowed the BBC show’s judges with their routines.
Dianne joined the Strictly troupe in 2017, making the move from Australia to the UK for the chance. Before this, she was a regular on Australia’s Dancing With The Stars and also strutted her stuff on So You Think You Can Dance Australia.
Since moving to the UK, she’s popped up on Children In Need, CelebAbility, and Pointless Celebrities. Dianne also braved the cold in BBC’s Freeze The Fear With Wim Hof and showed off her culinary skills in Celebrity Masterchef.
Strictly has had a profound effect on Dianne’s life, including prompting her move to the UK and sparking a romance. The star is currently dating YouTube sensation Joe Sugg, her dance partner from Strictly in 2018, reports Devon Live.

After the series wrapped up, Joe and Dianne confirmed they were an item.
The pair’s romance continues to blossom years after their initial encounter. They currently reside in a stunning £3.5 million, five-bedroom home just outside Brighton, where Joe, the younger sibling of internet sensation Zoe Sugg, better known as Zoella, grew up.
The pair are getting ready to grow their family, as they took to Instagram on Sunday evening to announce that they were expecting a baby.
In addition to revealing the huge news, they also shared the gender of the baby, as Joe said, “Our little baby boy, we cannot wait to meet you.”
The loved-up couple announced the news with a funny video of them painting a picture in their house. The camera shows them pulling faces as they concentrate on the task at hand before they reveal their joint artwork.
They then showed the image to the camera, which revealed Joe and Dianne as stick people with a stick baby in the middle.
Dianne has spoken about having children in the past and previously told Women’s Health: “Joe is the most supportive person. I’d love to have a family one day, and I know Joe would love a family too. That would be our dream one day.”
Dianne has been forthright not only about her romance but also regarding her personal health battles. She shared her previous fight with bulimia and her obsession with achieving a perfect physique and weight.
She described her ordeal of being hospitalised after missing meals and excessive exercise, which led to anaemia caused by iron deficiency.
At her most vulnerable, the now healthy star had stopped menstruating and found it difficult to walk up stairs.
Nevertheless, her hospital admission represented a crucial watershed moment in her journey, a situation she insists she “never wants to return to, ever”.
During a chat on ITV’s Lorraine, Dianne candidly discussed her health journey, stating, “I worked on a cruise ship for quite a while. It’s tricky, because as a dancer, you get weighed. We got weighed every week and had a thing called a WW, which was a weight warning. I had two of them in my time and I weighed two more kilos that I do now.”
She added: “I went through one point where I just wouldn’t eat, so I just had a drink for lunch and a drink for dinner. I got really sick and if I did have some food, I would make myself sick because I wouldn’t want it in me.
“I adore dancing, but I guess as I became more successful, the pressures also grew. That can really spiral you into this awful self-doubt and the pressure of that makes you do crazy things.”
