It was revealed on Strictly Come Dancing’s launch showthat Apprentice star Thomas Skinner was paired with Amy Dowden. Fans have been critical of the coupling online saying that the Welsh dancer “deserved better” after Thomas’ controversies were brought to light in the media.
The pair have taken to social media to show their excitement for the series, revealing a behind the scenes insight in to their hefty training schedule in the process. They’ve said they’ve not “stopped laughing since we met” as Amy teaches Thomas “the moves”.
Thomas shared on Instagram the reveal video of the duo, with the caption: “Let me introduce you to an absolute legend, me partner for Strictly Come Dancing. The lovely @amy_dowden.” For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter.
The TV personality added: “We ain’t stopped laughing since we met and she is teaching me the moves which you’ll see at the end of the video.
“Honoured to be doing Strictly and I’ll be posting lots of behind the scenes videos. Honestly never fort [sic] I would love dancing as much as I am! Enjoy. Bosh.”
Amy responded: “Yes partner. Had the best week! You’ve work hard, we’ve laughed, and fun and you are looking after me too as am I you! Let’s do this partner. “
In the video we see Thomas introducing his dance partner who says they’ve had a very intense training schedule.
Amy explained: “I’m so excited. We’ve been working so hard. He’s been waking up at 2/3am. You’ve been going through the whole routine, the gym at 5am, then coming to rehearsals. We’ve been working hard but most importantly we’ve been having a right laugh haven’t we?”
In a separate post Amy said on Instagram: “The news is out! @iamtomskinner and I are excited and working hard rrrrrready for the first live show next Saturday! Tom is working so hard and is loving learning to dance (more than he ever imagined). We are laughing lots too! Honestly Tom it’s been so lovely getting to know the really lovely, bubbly, full of life you this week. Thanks for a great week and so looking forward to our strictly journey ahead! Let’s do this.”
Thomas commented in response: “Really really enjoyed training with you this week. You are honestly an amazing person and everything you have been through…. Shows how strong and inspiring you are. I promise I won’t let you down. I might not be the best dancer. But I promise I’ll be the hardest worker. Thank you for being so kind and lovely to me and I’ve enjoyed your company so much. I ain’t stopped laughing with ya. Can’t wait to get on that dance floor with ya next week. Bosh”
However, many fans have expressed their disdain for the partnership. One person commented on Amy’s post saying: “You deserved better x”
Another added: “You look amazing Amy. Great to see u back. So sorry you got the short straw with him though.”
A third said: “I am gutted she’s got him on he first year back.”
Although one person hit back saying: “Before everyone makes negative comments, just remember that politics never enters the ballroom- it’s all about dancing, dancing, dancing- that’s what the pros are there for- be kind everybody.”
