Former Swansea boss Luke Williams is closing in on a new job
Former Swansea City boss Luke Williams is reportedly closing in on a new job back in football.
Williams was relieved from his post with the Swans eight months ago, but now looks poised to take over at third tier strugglers Peterborough United.
Posh are currently rock bottom of League One, having won just three of their opening 13 games, a run that has seen them part company with Darren Ferguson.
The club are understood to be moving quickly to make Williams their new boss, although sources have stressed a deal is not yet done.
Nevertheless, should Williams be confirmed as the club’s new boss this week, his first game would see him come up against a familiar opponent.
Cardiff City are the visitors to London Road this weekend, and the 44-year-old’s Swansea connections will surely not go unnoticed.
Williams faced the Bluebirds three times as a head coach, winning his first south Wales derby in charge of the Swans with a 2-0 victory in March 2024.
However, last season was a little different, with the Swans drawing the first meeting at the Swansea.com Stadium, before going down 3-0 at the Cardiff City Stadium later in the season.
That defeat ultimately helped ease Williams out the door at SA1, with Swansea parting company following a run of seven defeats in nine games.
Cardiff would go on to be relegated, and under Brian Barry-Murphy are hoping to bounce straight back up from League One.
Dealing a blow to Cardiff’s promotion hopes would certainly be a strong opening gambit for Williams in this new chapter.
The ex-Notts County boss has enjoyed a somewhat unorthodox spell out of football since leaving south Wales, working as a customer care assistant at Bristol Airport.
“I am out of my comfort zone,” the former Swansea City and Notts County boss told the BBC at the time.
“I am trying to push myself to do something completely different.
“Football is challenging but I know football – it’s what I do. This job has been really eye-opening for me and I hope it’s going to help me in my next role in football.”
