DC Lewis Brimah actor Nathan Mensah addressed a possible second season of Michelle Keegan’s hit drama.
An actor from The Blame has teased a possible storyline for season two.
The Michelle Keegan and Douglas Booth-starring police drama is coming to an end on Monday night, with Sophie Madsen’s killer finally unveiled. The six-part series saw Michelle’s character DI Emma Crane work to uncover systemic misogyny and corruption within the police force.
After the death of a teenage ice figure skater, she uncovered the truth about her police force and the secrets that lay within it. After finding herself involved in a tangled web of lies, what started as a tragic death spiralled into moral compromise, with DI Emma working to expose the truth.
While discovering who really killed Sophie, secrets from DI Emma’s past also began to emerge, with the series ending with DC Lewis Brimah discovering evidence that DI Emma had been lying.
Nathan Mensah, who plays DC Lewis in his first TV role, has now spoken about the ending, and what could happen next. In an exclusive interview, he shared: “There’s nothing I can really tease at the moment, who knows? We’ll just have to wait on the next season of Lewis and Emma.”
He then addressed where he would want to see his role develop, saying: “I would personally want to step into a DI position, and then investigate Emma but without her knowing.
“I think Lewis would have to figure out where this third picture of Amber Dodds came from, why she hid it from him, without necessarily challenging her directly. I think he would set up his own investigation and almost monitor her and see how she navigates this whole situation, thinking that Lewis doesn’t know, and I guess at some point, speaking to her about it and saying to her directly, why did you hide this from me, why didn’t I know about this? I want to know more about her history and background, has this happened in the past, who is she really?”
He continued: “I also thought Drummond, who speaks to Sophie in the car initially and lets her go, because he comes in to help me at some point, I wondered whether he would step up and help me investigate her a little bit.”
Ahead of the series airing, Nathan described his character by saying: “Lewis is a good guy, in fact, he’s a great guy… He’s coming to the system, going through the fast-track graduate scheme which means he hasn’t had the experience that a lot of the other officers and other detectives have.
“But he’s ambitious and he just wants to do a good job, like that is his focus. He’s by the book and he wholeheartedly believes in the job. He believes in the system, he believes in the people that he works with, and he has a very strong moral compass. He’s a very simple man, he believes things are black and white, there’s right and wrong, good and bad.”
Reflecting on the moment he knew he had his first TV role, he added: “I feel so grateful and I feel so blessed to have been given this opportunity to take on this role. Of course, there were nerves. Similar to Lewis, I was coming in and working with all these amazing actors, and you want to do a good job.
“I think the nerves came from that. It was nerves, it was excitement… it was the first time that I actually felt that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be and I think I was probably more nervous about my first day meeting Michelle and hoping Michelle would like me.”
