Batches of popular supermarket items have been removed from shelves after some shoppers claimed the taste of the products appeared “off” – but the company reassures they remain safe to consume. Dairy giant Clover has confirmed that its Clover and Clover Light spreads have been taken off shelves after identifying an issue which “may affect taste and odor” of certain batches. The move came as some customers on Reddit discussed the taste of recently bought products.
One person posted: “Has anyone else bought Clover or any other butter/butter alternatives this past week and noticed the taste is completely off?” Another noted there was a “big empty space” at their local store where the popular spread was normally stocked.
The worried customer thought their bread had “gone moldy” when using the Clover product. A third customer commented: “I’ve got a tub of clover bought within the last few weeks, well within expiry (at least 1+ month), that does not taste right, pretty much exactly as you described.”
In a social media announcement, Clover acknowledged a “flavour issue” had been detected in “certain batches” of the spread. The company stressed the product remains “safe to eat”.
However, the firm is advising customers who have bought the affected batches to dispose of them.
It told LancsLive: “We have voluntarily withdrawn select batches of Clover and Clover Light following the identification of an issue which may affect its taste and odour.
“While the product remains safe to consume, it does not meet our quality standards. We have worked closely with retailers to remove affected stock from sale and apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
