Alan Carr has addressed speculation he could replace Strictly Come Dancing presenters Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, who announced they would step down from the role in October.
Alan Carr has addressed the mounting speculation surrounding his potential involvement in one of British television’s most prestigious presenting roles.
With rumours circulating about potential successors to Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman as hosts of Strictly Come Dancing,the 49-year-old comedian and broadcaster has emerged as a prominent name in the conversation.
“I know my name’s been bandied about,” he told the Daily Mail. “It’s nice to be in the running, but no one approached me.
“It’s such big shoes to fill, and everyone loves it,” he added, paying tribute to the programme’s devoted following.
Should he be selected, Alan would be taking over from one of television’s most beloved presenting partnerships, according to the Mirror.
Tess has fronted Strictly since its debut in 2004, initially alongside Sir Bruce Forsyth, with Claudia joining as co-host in 2014. The pair confirmed their departure in a joint announcement last October.
Alan’s hesitations, he jokes, stem from nerves. Reflecting on his recent triumph on Celebrity Traitors, he admitted that even seemingly minor moments can unsettle him.
“Traitors has reawoken something playful in me. It’s what I do best, but I am a bit flustery.
“I got nervous going down for breakfast in the castle, eating a croissant after murdering Celia,” he added.
“[So] imagine me doing Strictly live on a Saturday night. Would I be good on it, or would my wings be a little bit clipped? Let’s see what happens.”
Alan is reportedly one of ten people on the BBC’s shortlist for the role, in what is being described as one of the show’s most significant “shake-ups” in recent memory.
Executives are said to be evaluating potential pairings based on on-screen chemistry rather than individual presenting ability alone, with Alan’s prospects strengthened by his recent television appearances, sold-out live shows, and renewed public interest.
The Celebrity Traitors winner is not the only familiar face reportedly under consideration. Sources suggest the BBC’s list also includes Bradley Walsh, Alex Jones, Rylan Clark, Zoe Ball, Rob Rinder, Holly Willoughby, Alison Hammond, Amanda Holden and Angela Scanlon.
