Emergency services rushed to a popular UK city after a man was allegedly struck by a vehicle and stabbed in a night of carnage. Police and paramedics rushed to Chichester Road in Southend-on-Sea after they found a man with stab wounds. Three men and a woman have been arrested following the events on Chichester Road
The incident happened on early hours of Sunday (April 5) after reports of two groups of people, some thought to be carrying knives, fighting at around 2am, Essex Live reports. According to the police, armed officers raced to the scene where a man with stab wounds was discovered. A detailed investigation later revealed that a vehicle had also been in collision with the man, who has suffered injuries described as serious and potentially life-changing.
Two suspects fled the scene in a car, which was later found at Southend Hospital, while a second vehicle believed to be connected to the incident was safely intercepted on the M25 in Hertfordshire.
Police have arrested four people — three men and a woman — on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, with one of the men currently receiving treatment in hospital.
Officers believe the attack is linked to an earlier disturbance near the South Street Bar on London Road in Westcliff at around 1am.
By Sunday morning, a large cordon remained in place on Chichester Road at the junction with Warrior Square, with police standing guard over the area.
Chief Superintendent Chris Bradford said: “I understand how concerning this incident will be to the local community today. I want to reassure you that officers have made quick arrests and we believe that those involved are known to each other.
“You will see an increased policing presence in the area and I encourage you to come and talk to us. I would also ask anyone who has information, CCTV or dashcam footage to contact us. This investigation is in its early stages, but this type of violent behavior has no place in Southend and we will not tolerate it.”
