London commuters and people visiting the capital on Friday, April 24, are facing fresh travel chaos after days of disruption due to a strike affecting the London Underground – and a separate action impacting some bus routes. Industrial action has been called by members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT), which represents roughly half of drivers on the Tube network, who are in a dispute with Transport for London (TfL) over changes to the working week and said it was concerned about the safety impact of proposed shift lengths.
After Tube lines were affected by severe delays on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week, more chaos is expected on Friday, with Tube services running set to start later than normal, and not before 7.30am. Significant disruption, TfL has warned, is to be expected on all lines until noon, with services recovering during the afternoon and evening. While commuters have been able to rely on buses this week, some routes may be impacted by a separate strike on April 24. TfL said: “The vast majority of buses will be running normally throughout these strikes, but 7 bus routes operated by Stagecoach will be affected by separate strike action between 05:00 on Friday 24 April and 05:00 on Saturday 25 April. Other buses will run as usual.” The DLR, Elizabeth Line and Overground lines are to run as normal, but are likely to be busier than usual.
