Amid an upward surge of Covid cases in the country, doctors have accused the government of “wilful negligence” of refusing to initiate “plan B” to cauterise the spread of the virus.
The umbrella body of doctors in the country, the British Medical Association has warned that Covid-related deaths in the country have now matched the figures recorded during March’s lockdown. Chaand Nagpaul, the body’s chair, has described the government’s approach as “incredibly concerning.”

The warning by the doctors comes in the wake of a press briefing by Health secretary Sajid Javid who said the pressure on the NHS does not yet warrant activating “plan B.”
Javid said the government would not activate the backup strategy until hospitals were at risk of being overwhelmed.
SurgeZirc UK understands that some patients have been waiting for more than two days for beds after visiting A&E, while others are forced to wait outside the hospital in an ambulance for very long periods.
Javid on Wednesday evening cautioned that winter restrictions could be re-introduced “if we don’t do our bit”.
“If not enough people get that booster jab, if not enough people who are eligible for that original offer of a vaccine don’t come forward, if people don’t wear masks when they really should … it’s going to hit us,” the health secretary told reporters.
The health secretary was reacting to a question at a Downing Street press conference over Tory MPs seen without face coverings in parliament, according to Tom Batchelor.
Speculations have been rife that the government officials who are expected to lead the line in the fight against the resurgence of Covid cases have been grossly negligent in standing up to their responsibilities.
