Yorkshire Wildlife Park has issued a plea to visitors ahead of its reopening on Friday after a man was mauled to death by a tiger in one of its enclosures last weekend. In a new update, the wildlife park near Doncaster said it will “reopen tomorrow (Friday) following the tragic incident that occurred at the park on Saturday”. William Chapman, 23, was killed by the tiger after entering its enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Ahead of its reopening tomorrow the park has issued a plea for visitors to treat staff with understanding and respect as they prepare to welcome guests back.
A spokesperson for Yorkshire Wildlife Park said: “As we welcome visitors back, we would ask everyone to be understanding and respectful towards our staff team who have shown tremendous professionalism and dedication during an exceptionally difficult time.
“We are providing specialist trauma support and ongoing care for those affected”, said a spokesperson for the Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
The park added that “many, many people” have contacted Altai, the tiger, and reassured the public “that he is safe and well and will not be euthanized as a result of this incident”. It said: “His ongoing welfare at YWP remains a priority of our experienced animal care team.”
